Concert, Exhibition and Wine Show Within the European Year of Cultural Heritage in Brussels

April-September, 2018
On the occasion of the European Year of Cultural Heritage, the Cultural Service of the Hungarian Embassy in Brussels organizes several programmes: A photo exhibition of the work of Miksa Róth, a famous glass window and mosaic artist; a concert of the Hungarian folklore band, Somos will participate in the Balkans Trafik festival. In the second half of 2018 the Confrérie de Tokaj will be presented at the Hungarian Institute in Brussels. As part of the event, Tokaj wines will be served.

Tradition of Christ-soldiers in Hajdúdorog

March 30 - April 1, 2018
Easter is the most important celebration for Christians. In Hajdúdorog, “the most loyal city of the Greek Catholic faith”, a special way exists for commemoration. From Good Friday,the day of the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ until Easter Sunday, men wearing traditional clothes and sword, the so-called Christ-soldiers are serving in the Greek Catholic Cathedral. Their main task is the protection of the Saint Tomb, the symbolic tomb of Jesus.

Neighbourhood – street ball games in Pécs between Kertváros and Uránváros

May 5-6, 2018
Kertváros and Uránváros: the two biggest neighbourhoods of the city of Pécs, where 70% of the inhabitants are located. Public initiatives, practices of community recreation are missing from these parts of the city. With the project named Lakókapcsolatok (Residential Relationships), Eklekta Association would like to make people rethink community spaces and with the use of street basketball to encourage residentials in the two neighbourhoods to strengthen their local identity, and to strengthen connection between groups and people.

Whitsun Heritage Festival – International Gathering of Intangible Cultural Heritage

The festival is a possibility for the intangible cultural heritage communities to introduce themselves in the environment of the Skanzen’s folk architectural monuments. Craft demonstrations, stage performances are parts of the program, and active involvement of the audience into the participatory activities is a significant feature too. Visitors can get a taste of the heritage practice of the communities, can experience community identity and the demonstrations of knowledge, skills and expression forms. They can encounter real value and living tradition in an authentic environment.

The Day of Hungarian archaelogy 2018

The Savaria Museum is awaiting its guests with various programmes on the occasion of the Day of Hungarian archaelogy. The programmes for schoolchildren and families aim to take archaelogy closer and in a playful way to participants. Örvényeshegy Piknik

May 25-27th, 2018
In 2018 one of Hungary’s latest art festival will be launched in Zalacsány. Örvényeshegy is a fabulous place in the Zala hills. The main stage is lying in a wooded area, which is a perfect venue for concerts, theatre plays and literary programs. The festival is opened by one of the world’s best guitarist, Al Di Meola and during the three days visitors can hear - among others - Pély Barna, Pribojszki Mátyás Band and Jónás Vera Experiment.

V4 Folk Dance Festival

June 22-24, 2018
The Slovenian Tine Rožanc folk dance group has formed partnerships with other dance groups in the region. Together they will perform a show on the streets of Ljubljana in the afternoon and in the evening at the usual venue of the Slovenian dance group, the Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana. The following day folk dance workshops will take place at the Balassi Institute.

SZÁSZ-Várday

The SZÁSZ-Várday was organized for the first time on 25th June 2017 with the purpose of continuing this tradition in the future. The newly renovated Castle of Szászvár, former residence of the bishop, is a convenient place for maintaining and strenghtening the European, and the universal Christian identity. As a building it serves as a good example for the heritage protection of good quality. By bringing closer the common past in an understandable way, it contributes to the strenghtening of social cohesion.

Mároki Lakodalmas

The "Mároki Lakodalmas" is organised in every August building on a traditional wedding ceremony, where a bride and a bridegroom representing the two parts of the village (the Swabian and the Hungarian) get married. Artisan market, exhibition, horse riding possibility, open museum and church and traditional Hungarian and Swabic costumes are all part of the event.

8th Esztergom Liszt Week

August 26 - 31, 2018
The 8th Esztergom Liszt Week will be organized on the occasion of the 162nd anniversary of the consecration of Esztergom Cathedral by the Liszt Ferenc Society. Over the 6 days of the Liszt Festival, the less frequently performed works by Ferenc Liszt, the great Hungarian and European composer of genius, will be performed in various venues in Esztergom (Cathedral, Saint Adalbert Centre, Franciscan church). The performing artists are both locally and nationally renowned in Hungary, including choirs and orchestras.

Renovation of the Kossuth Memorial House in Shumen

September – November, 2018
Hungary and Bulgaria both support the preservation and presentation of memorials in their countries which are also part of the cultural heritage of the other party. The reconstruction of the Kossuth Lajos Memorial House, opened in 1949, is a milestone in the preservation of such memorials. The Memorial House is situated in the former residence of great Hungarian statesmen and also the most prominent figure of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848-1849, Lajos Kossuth.

During the programme folk music bands and soloists from the Carpathian Basin's countries (Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine, the Moldavian Hungarian nationalities) popularising and preserving the Hungarian folk music traditions and folk music values are meeting in Kisvárda. The so-called big presentation of their repertoires in front of the public is happening in the framework of a concert. Ars Sacra Festival

The Ars Sacra Festival has been organized by the Ars Sacra Foundation yearly, since 2007. Admission is free to all programs. Concert on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Óbudai Társaskör

The festive house music concert of Óbudai Társaskör features orchestras that have made the Társaskör their home. Before the concert, their concert hall will be named Ottó Till Hall. Ottó Till (1929-2011) was an honored citizen of Óbuda, a music teacher and founder of the 64-year-old Óbuda Chamber Orchestra. Creative artists Kiégő Izzók will project photos of the old building onto the walls of Társaskör.

International Flag Parade by ESN Hungary

Martin's Day

November 9, 2018
The goal of this event is to maintain the tradition of celebrating St. Martin's day as it was many years ago with an exciting atmosphere. The purpose is to engage the new generation in taking part of these kind of activities. Especially preschoolers and children attending primary school are expected to participate with homemade lamps in the Central Park in Cluj for a special inlighted walk. The crowd is accompanied by local folk musicians and dancers. After the walk participants are served with traditional food, goose grease sandwiches and hot tea.

Centenary commemoration of moving the Academy of Mining and Forestry from Selmecbánya to Sopron

December 1-8, 2018
The student traditions formed at the Selmecbánya Academy of Mining and Forestry are unique in Hungary, and are still practised by students of the successor institutions in Sopron, Miskolc, Dunaújváros and Székesfehérvár. Upon the centenary of moving the Hungarian Royal Academy of Mining and Forestry from Selmecbánya to Sopron, the University of Sopron is organizing several programmes.
