March 9-10, 2018
The Petőfi Sándor Poem Recitation Competition is organised by the Szalárdi János Association every year as part of the Hungarian National Day's celebrations for the students to compete from the local and nearby schools. In 2018 will be the tenth anniversary of this event and it plays an important part in the local and nearby area's national celebrations.

The purpose of the Petőfi Sándor Poem Recitation Competition and National Day Celebration is to bring together the local Hungarian community in commemoration of the historical date of 15th March 1848, reminding them of the importance of protection of their national identity and culture.

The students, teachers and parents begin preparing in time the decorations, food and drinks as well as the presentation related to the history of the event. The students select their favourite poem written by Petőfi Sándor Hungarian poet and key figure of the Revolution of 1848, and start learning to recite them weeks before the competition with the help of their teacher. The members of the competition jury are selected from a group of teachers, actors and members of the church from around the area. The local Hungarian folk dance group called Pitypangok perform every year as part of the event along with the chore of the school, singers, bands, actors, teachers and professors.
