Hungarian cultural heritage in pictures
The aim of the World Heritage convention adopted by UNESCO in 1972 is to encourage the identification, protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage around the world considered to be of outstanding value to humanity. Having ratified the World Heritage Convention in 1985, Hungary boasts with eight world heritage sites.
The Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage was adopted by the General Conference of UNESCO in 2003. Hungary ratified the Convention in 2006.
The European Heritage Label has been created with the aim to strenghten the European identity and promote the sites that play an important role in our commonhistory and culture and in the European integration.
